1. Complete Steak Dinner
- Ellis Island - $4.95 --
In Las
Vegas, you’ll find every kind
of steak dinner imaginable, from Kobe beef
at $165 a slice to the what-kind-of-meat-is-
this cuts that often go with eggs and hash browns for
$1.95. But pound for pound, the
best beef deal in town is the long-standing complete
steak dinner at Ellis Island. For $4.95, Ellis dishes up
a 10-ounce filet-cut sirloin cooked to order, along with
soup or salad, choice of potato, side vegetable, and
rolls. It’s served day and night, but it’s not listed on
the menu; just ask for it. |

2. Shrimp Cocktail - Golden Gate -
99¢ -- The
shrimp cocktail at Golden Gate
(#2) contains three
ounces of these little
crustaceans, plus crackers and a lemon
(you
might need to ask for them). There’s
no
lettuce or
celery; the shrimp meat fills
the
tulip glass right down
to the sweet bye
and bye. But the most amazing thing
about
it is
the price: 99¢—a cocktail of equal size
and
quality would cost 4 times that amount, minimum,
anywhere else. |

3. Superbuffet - Texas Station - $4.99 -$9.99/$10.99 --
The
superbuffet at Texas Station (#3) offers the
multi-cuisine exhibition-style action stations popular
at many buffets around Las Vegas. Texas, though, adds
extra touches, such as a one-of-kind chili bar and
made-to-order fajitas. Other stations include American,
Italian, Chinese, Mexican, and a huge dessert display.
This month we went
back for breakfast and found omelets, break fast
burritos, blintzes, and an array of
dessert-style selections, includ- ing muffins, donuts,
bread pudding, and a tasty apple crisp. Note that the
2-for-1 coupon in the POV is good Sunday through
Thursday and can be used
for 50% off if dining solo.

5. Hamburger - Wild Wild West - $1.99 --
Question: What’s the difference between a $7.99
hamburger in a fancy restaurant and
a $1.99 hamburger at Wild Wild West (#5)? Answer: There
is none — except for the six bucks. Satisfy your
hankerin’ for an eight-
ounce grilled chopped sirloin, along with lettuce,
tomato, pickle, plus a pile of French fries anytime day
or night at Wild Wild West. And if you really want to
spend $7.99, treat three of your friends. |

6. Show Trio - Fitzgeralds - Thurs.-Mon. - $3-$9
--
Las Vegas’ new best entertainment deal is actually a
series of three shows at Fitzgeralds downtown (#6).
There’s a magic show at 3 pm, a comedic impressionist at
5 pm, and an Elvis tribute at 7 pm. These shows are
performed in a small showroom on the second floor of the
casino and admission is free. There’s a one-drink
minimum, with drinks starting as low as $3, so the total
cost for all three shows is $9 (plus tokes to the
cocktail waitresses), which works out to a little more
than $3 an hour for some really good Vegas entertainment.

Where’s
the best place in Las Vegas to drink on the cheap?
Plenty of bars serve $1 bottled beer, 50¢ drafts, or 99¢
margaritas. But Key Largo serves them all — and 24/7 to
boot. Key Largo’s around-the-clock happy hour (#7) also
includes half-price appetizers like quesadillas, chicken
wings, chicken fingers, nachos, potato skins, and onion
rings (all $2-$2.50).

$4.99 half-chicken deal. Accompanied by corn tortillas,
Spanish rice, pinto beans, corn-on-the-cob,
and mango
salsa, the food fills up a huge plate and comes with a
side salad. Terrible’s serves the same chicken between
